Police in Laikipia have recovered several bags of subsidized fertilizer suspected to have been stolen, after a sting operation in the region.
During the raid, two suspects Francis Githiora, 41 and Sarah Murugi, 38 were arrested and are currently cooling their heels in police custody.
In a statement by the National Police Service (NPS), police stated that the bags were recovered on Saturday, April 8, 2023, by officers acting on a tip-off from members of the public.
The search led by the Sub-County police commander saw police officers drawn from Sipili and Ng'arua police stations recover one hundred and twenty 50kg bags of subsidized fertiliser.
Police say the bags were destined to be re-sold to the area locals.
"Officers from Sipili and Nga'arua Police Stations and led by Sub County Police Commander Kirima Sub-County acting on a tip-off from members of the public raided Blessed Agrovet in Sipili Township," NPS said.
"At the said agro vet, police recovered one hundred and twenty (120) 50kg bags of government-subsidized fertilizer suspected to be destined for re-sale," the police added.
Police also impounded and detained the vehicle used to ferry the confiscated goods.
"One motor vehicle make Isuzu Dmax which was used for transportation was impounded and detained at Sipili Police Station, while the exhibits are kept at Nga'arua Police Station," the statement reads in parts.
"Two suspects namely Francis Githiora, 41 and Sarah Murugi, 38 were arrested and detained at Sipili Police Station pending arraignment in Court," the statement added.
