Zeleck Momanyi, who was present when TikToker Brian Chira was hit by a speeding lorry, has narrated the events of the fateful Saturday night March 16, 2024.

Speaking in an interview with Presenter Ali, Momanyi said he had just alighted from a motorbike at 2:53 am next to XO club when he spotted Brian Chira.

"Kushuka pikipiki hivi nkapata Brian anafukuzwa kutoka hio club ju walikua wanataka kufunga. So kumwangalia hivi nkajua huyu ni Brian na alikua amelewa sana, alikua chini anatolewa. So kumwana nkamwita 'Brian' akaitika so akaniomba akaniambia nisaidie," he narrated.

Momanyi said Chira requested his help to get home as he was completely wasted.

Brian Chira and Momanyi sat as pillion passengers and they headed home riding on the motorbike.

"Huyu mtu wa piki piki before nimrelease nkamwambia ju hawa wanafunga nisaidie huyu umpeleke nyumbani. Masoldier wakasema kama unamjua unaweza ukamsaidia, so nkamsongea kwa bike akaingia nyuma yangu," the witness recalled.

Momanyi said that Chira requested to be dropped off closer to his house and he obliged since he was so intoxicated

The witness noted that a drunk Chira alighted from the motorbike that was carrying them and started running away to avoid paying the boda boda rider.

Momanyi added that a white Canter hit Chira as he was fleeing.

"Tukaenda tukafika junction so nlikua nataka kudivert kuenda nyumbani na unfortunately Brian alikua anaenda different direction so alikua anataka kumwacha hapo lakini venye alikua mveli alisema tena naomba munisongeshe munifikishe mahali fulani, tusonge mbele kidogo. Aya nkaambia boda boda tusonge alafu turudi unipeleke home. So after tumesonga tumefika mahali alituambia, akashuka tu pikipiki and then mtu wa pikipiki kumuitisha fare akaanza tu kukimbia. Before tu asonge two steps mbele hivi ndo gari ilitokea tu ikampiga," Momanyi narrated.

"Canter ya white. Ili speed off ikaenda," he added.

Momanyi recalled that the impact threw Brian Chira meters ahead and that the lorry that hit him also ran over his body before speeding away.

"Alipigwa akaenda distance then gari ikamfwata mbele ikampita juu," he said.

Momanyi added that the boda boda rider fled from the scene when the accident happened.

"Soldiers wenye waliskia kelele wakakuja jamaa wa pikipiki akapotea tu hivyo. Sikua namjua si nilimpata tu hapo nkamwambia nipeleke mahali fulani. So yeye alienda, nkabaki tu pekeangu."

Momanyi further disclosed that he called emergency helpline 999 and the police arrived at the scene of the accident.

The witness was taken to the Karuri Police Station where he recorded a statement.

"Nilijaribu tu kutafuta venye naweza kumsaidia sikupata namna yoyote nkapiga 999 so nkaongea na hao askari headquarters wakanipatia number ya PC Mwaniki. Kumuongelesha akanitumia number ya officer ako incharge that night ndo akamtuma akakuja akanipata hapo ndo nakaenda nkaadikisha statement kwa hio Karuri station," Momanyi said.
