Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson has congratulated two pilots from the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust who saved a truck driver from the raging Galana-Kulalu floods.

Speaking in a video posted on social media, the Hollywood superstar lauded the two pilots for their courage.

"This message is for two very special people, very skilled and special pilots and of cause the larger organization," The Rock said.

The wrestler-cum-movie star added that the act of courage displayed by the two pilots inspired him having played a pilot role on a rescue mission in the 2015 disaster movie 'San Andreas'.

"Guys I just want to say I was so impressed and so moved and so inspired by your act of courage, valour and heroism as you saved that man whose truck was tipped over. I have had the great fortune and privilege to play helicopter pilot in situations like that but you guys are the real deal. In my little bit of training and research, I understand how difficult that is. I was so moved by that and I was so incredibly impressed and I just wanted to give you guys so much love mwaaah. Send so much love to the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust - the larger organization, what incredible work that you guys do," The Rock said.

The rescue

A video of a daring rescue operation by Sheldrick Wildlife Trust trended on social media with netizens likening it to a movie scene.

The video showed a truck driver being pulled out of a truck swept away by heavy floods in Galana Kulalu after six hours of being stranded.

As shared on the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust page, the tanker was driving across the Galana-Kulalu causeway when the river suddenly flooded and surrounded it.

They say he was stuck in the tanker from 10:00 am and it was not until 4:00 pm that the manager raised an alarm.

"It was 4:30 pm on the afternoon of 3rd May 2023 when our Galana Operations Manager raised the alarm: A tanker had been driving across the Galana-Kulalu causeway when the river suddenly flooded and surrounded it," part of the statement read.

"Surrounded by floodwaters, the driver was trapped inside the vehicle. The crisis intensified when the water pushed the tanker on its side, smashing the windscreen and engulfing the cabin. The man clung to the top, but it was only a matter of time before the river engulfed the entire vehicle. Onlookers watched helplessly from the shore, horrified but unable to intervene, as the current made any sort of crossing impossible."
