Saumu Mbuvi, the daughter of former Nairobi governor Mike Sonko, opened up about her failed relationships revealing that her first boyfriend was the best.

Speaking during an interview with SPM Buzz, Saumu said that she had her first boyfriend when she was a fourth-year student at Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT).

Saumu revealed that her first boyfriend was nonother than her baby daddy Ben Gathu.

Sonko's daughter said Gathu was a 'kienyeji' boyfriend who was a non-smoker and teetotaller.

"Alikua mshamba lakini pia alikua amereisiwa vizuri. Alikua wale kienyeji lakini alikua na heshina. Ata pombe ata bangi, never did drugs. Alikua mtu wa Mungu, mtu wa kanisa," she said.

Saumu said she fell for Gathu because he was the complete opposite of her in terms of personality traits and character.

"Mi nilikua nataka mtu really opposite of me, completely because now sasa with my personality, I am an extrovert and sanguine. I am just loud and happy. So nilikua nataka mtu so opposite of me ndo at least I can have a balance. Sasa yeye ndo niliona the right candidate hio wakati," she said.

The mother of two further revealed that her kienyeji boyfriend despite being broke gifted her Ksh300,000 during her graduation.

"The first gift he bought me, aki jamani alienda akajaribu. Siku ya graduation alijikaza kiume akakuja akanipatia Ksh300,000. Sasa nashangaa ametoa wapi pesa hio wakati. Nikaona anajifinya sana kuimpress."

Saumu noted that exposing her relationship on social media was among the factors that caused her relationship with Gathu to hit rock bottom.

"With exposure, it brought a lot of fake people around both for him and for me. But you know when we came to an agreement that we have to separate, things were not working out and I don't like being around things that drain me, I had just to follow what would make me happy and comfortable," she said.

"We decided just to part ways, he followed his heart and I was not against it. I was bitter at first because I felt like I was betrayed," she added.

The mother of two further disclosed that she is still friends with Gathu and that their focus is now on raising their daughter.

"The good thing is that there was a friendship and with that friendship, we still respect each other and that friendship has never changed. Our focus is seeing our child be happy and mentally ok," she said.

Other relationships

Saumu Mbuvi said she was not ready to date again when she was asked if she will fall in love again.

"I am not ready for that yet. God will send the right man at the right time," she said.

The mother of two additionally stated that she was not lucky when it comes to love, joking that she would need prayers from Pastor Ezekiel to find her Prince Charming.

"Nyota ya kimapenzi maybe nitafute kwa Ezekiel lakini nyota ya maisha Mungu nimeona he has plans for me. Nyota ya mapenzi hapo I don't want talk," she said.

Saumu Mbuvi gave birth to her first daughter on March 8, 2017, shortly after breaking up with her baby daddy Ben Gathu.

Gatu left Saumu and got into a relationship with the daughter of former Murang’a Governor Mwangi Wairia.

Saumu on the other hand has had a rollercoaster love life that saw her become a victim of domestic violence at one point.

After Gathu, she started dating businessman Robert Ouko and together they launched a posh club in Westlands that was dubbed Wakanda. The relationship died in months.

After breaking up with Ouko, Saumu got into a relationship that she said was the most toxic in her life - dating former Lamu senator Anwar Loitiptip.

Loitiptip and Saumu met in Mombasa in 2019 where the latter was on holiday while the former was in the coastal city for work.

The two were blessed with a baby girl who was born on March 8, 2020, as the world was celebrating International Women’s Day.

On February 15, 2022, Saumu announced that she had parted ways with Loitiptip as she accused him of brutally assaulting her.

In a Questions and Answers (Q&A) session with her fans on Instagram, Saumu detailed how the Lamu senator nearly killed her as she posted a photo showing her swollen face as a result of the assault.

“These are things he did to me. He almost killed me, I will forever fight for women to stand for their rights. Never allow a man to be violent to you,” Saumu wrote.

In another Q&A with her fans on Instagram in January 2022, Saumu revealed that Loitiptip had completely neglected his fatherly duties to their daughter.

Deadbeat kabisa, has never supported a thing,” Saumu Mbuvi responded after a fan asked if Loitiptip was supporting their daughter.

In March 2022, Saumu Mbuvi once again claimed she was brutally assaulted after Loitiptip sent his girlfriend Aeedah Bambi to beat her up at her birthday party.

The mother of two took to social media to blame her baby daddy for sponsoring the attack.

“Anwar shame on you!!! Sending your woman and her friends to beat me up on my birthday, leave me in peace,” Saumu Mbuvi wrote as she showed her bloodied hand.

In late July 2022, Saumu Mbuvi said that she was willing to part with an undisclosed amount of money to deny ever dating her ex who she didn't name.
