Kenyan actress and public figure Catherine Kamau alias Kate Actress has led women in Nyeri in a peaceful demonstration against the rising cases of femicide in the country.
The march began in Nyeri on Friday, January 26 and will proceed to Nairobi on Saturday, January 27, 2024.
Taking to the streets of Nyeri town, Kate shared updates on the ongoing protest, noting her commitment to standing up for women's rights and safety.

The thespian explained that as a public figure and entertainer, has the mandate to protect women.
"The reason why we started this march, is I feel as a woman and entertainer, as someone who holds a position in society, I have a responsibility to protect women. The majority of my following are women. The people who have supported me through and through are women," Kate expressed.
"I am a mother, I am a woman, and I have a right to life. My sisters have a right to life. I have a responsibility to protect and speak against any form of violation of their rights, that's why I've decided to come and join them today," she added.
The much-anticipated march was announced on her Instagram page urging women to join in the protests.
Celebrities speak on femicide in Kenya
Bigwigs in the entertainment industry have also been actively speaking on the surge in the women killing cases.
Actress Brenda Wairimu held an Instagram live session mobilising women to join in speaking up against gender-based violence and the rampant femicide in the country.
'Volume' actor Brian Kabugi also joined in to show solidarity with a powerful and teary message on his Instagram calling to men to stop killing women.
