Betty Kyallo came out to explain the circumstances that led to her beauty shop Flair with Betty being put up on auction over pending rent arrears.

In a statement on social media, Betty explained that running the business unit became untenable because of high rent.

"Obviously running a business in Kenya has become so difficult. Landlords don't want to reduce rent and it becomes a huge burden on businesses that are struggling because of the economic slowdown," Betty Kyallo said.

The journalist-cum-entrepreneur further stated that she had to let go of her business in Kilimani because her peace of mind was more important than a name.

"I let it go. I am happier. I sleep better. My peace of mind is more important than a name. I'm good. Also after 2 months of expansion, we reopen Aftershave by Flair, Upperhill, La Baita. Gentlemen come through. I'll be there today!" She said.

Auction

Keysian Auctioneers in a public notice published in the dailies said that items in Flair with Betty beauty parlour will be sold by public auction on Wednesday, April 17, 2024, in the case presented by the landlord.

Among the items that will be auctioned include three dismantled well shelves, a massage bed stand, two massage beds, a small serve rack, a glass shelf, four big mirrors, towel warmers and dressing tables.

Other items include a binatone microwave, small rolling seats, an office table, 12 barber seats, three seats attached with sinks, nine CCTV cameras, a Huawei router, a small foot massage, a Mac Coffee maker, Hiluck video recorder, one door fridge and others.

The auction is set to take place at Leakey's Storage Limited along Lunga-Lunga road in Nairobi.

Serial entrepreneur

Betty Kyallo is a serial entrepreneur who runs multiple businesses in the country.

Her business acumen became evident when she partnered with Susan Kaittany to open a luxury salon brand Posh Palace in 2016.

The two ladies worked together until 2017 when they parted ways and became bitter enemies.

Betty opened a rival salon Flair with Betty in 2018 and poached nearly all workers from Posh Palace forcing Kaittany’s beauty parlour to close for some time.

The TV girl opened Flair with Betty salon on April 14, 2018, located just opposite Posh Palace at FCB Mihrab.

She later relocated the parlour to Rose Avenue in June 2020 before moving it to George Padmore Road junction in Kilimani in March 2023.

Apart from Flair with Betty, the media personality also launched other businesses namely; After Shave by Flair, the Summer House restaurant among others.

After Shave by Flair is a diffusion line of Betty Kyallo’s now closed Spa and beauty parlour Flair with Betty.

The serial entrepreneur expanded her business portfolio with the launch of a branch of After Shave by Flair in Meru in April 2023.

Betty Kyallo also operates a restaurant business in the leafy Karen suburb of Nairobi.

She launched the Summer House on November 18, 2022, even though the restaurant had been in operation for about three months.

Just days after the launch, the Karen Lang’ata District Association expressed their frustrations with The Summer House and called on the Nairobi County government to shut it.
