Amos Rono, the bridegroom in the botched wedding in Bomet, offered wise counsel to lovebirds who celebrated Valentine's Day today.

Rono called on couples not to succumb to the undue pressure brought about by the not-a-must-love holiday.

"Leo ni siku ya wapendanao na mimi nataka niwaimize yakwamba usipochukuliwa mahali fulani sasa usipigane kelele kwa sababu ata mimi nilifanyiwa hivyo lakini sikujisumbua sana," Rono said during an interview with a local news outlet.

He further implored lovers to be understanding of their partners' financial situations, stressing that it was not worth breaking a relationship because of Valentine's demands.

"Sasa kama mtu mwenye angekupeleka out hana pesa usijisumbue na usikasirike sana hio relationship yenu iishe hivyo. Mungu alisema lazima tupendane, we are there for each other sasa usikasirike uende utafute mwingine kwa sababu hakukupeleka mahali fulani muende mujivinjari."

The Bomet man noted that he was spending Valentine's Day alone having been heartbroken by his ex-fiancée who pulled a Murife on him.

"Nko nyumbani and I am relaxed hakuna mtu mwenye tutaenda naye out given that I was heartbroken kwa sababu harusi yangu haikufanyika," he said.

Single and not searching

Amos Rono further disclosed that he is still giving the dating market a wide berth until he can get a permanent job and gain the confidence to seduce single ladies in the hope of finding his rib.

"Siko na mpango ya kutafuta bibi, sijakuja kwa soko lakini naona tu ntaongeza masiku, nlikua nimesema four months lakini I have to adjust iende mbaka six months, eight months there kwa sababu I want to settle first nipate kazi ya permanent. Nkipata permanent job ntasema sasa nimerudi kutafuta mpenzi wangu ambaye tutakaa na yeye milele ambaye kila mwaka tutaenda kujivinjari kwa siku ya wapendanao," Rono said.

Wedding drama

Rono was to exchange vows with Nelly Chepkoech at Kapsoyo AGC church in Bomet on December 9, 2024, but the wedding was called off abruptly after the bride demanded more time to make up her mind.

In his statement after the wedding drama went viral online, Rono called it quits saying he didn't want a relationship with the bride and subsequently called off the wedding.

He stated that each of them would go their separate ways and wished Chepkoech well in her life.

While stressing that they will not be getting back together, Rono faulted Chepkoech for being the cause of the wedding cancellation saying that she was entangled in a love web with another man.

After the incident, Rono met Kericho Governor Erick Mutai at his office who offered emotional support.
