Three officers have every reason to smile after their visit to Nyeri Archbishop Antony Muheria's home led to their promotion.

The officers who had accompanied the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) director George Kinoti, received a surprise promotion from President Uhuru Kenyatta during the visit.

According to a statement by the DCI, the officers had visited Bishop Muheria to hold a surprise birthday party for him.

"The Director-General had planned for a surprise visit to Archbishop Muheria, who is his close confidant and spiritual mentor. A few senior officers including the three volunteered to accompany him on the visit.

"Apart from seeking the Archbishop's intercession for police officers and their families as we head to the forthcoming elections, the team had prepared a surprise birthday party for the man of God," the statement reads in parts.

The three received news of their promotion from Kinoti who had been informed by the head of state. They were promoted from commissioners of police to assistant Inspector General.

The officers were elated as they thanked President Uhuru for offering them promotions.

Kinoti on the other hand expressed gratitude to the President noting that the promotion of the officers was based on their exemplary performance in finding solutions to criminal cases in the departments they were heading.

Nairobi Governor Ann Kananu and other DCI officers were also present.
