Wife to the televangelist Pius Muiru, Lucy Muiru told the Murang'a law courts that her mother-in-law Grace Wangari was always at loggerheads with her sister-in-law Monicah Muthoni.

Lucy was the tenth witness to testify in a murder case trial for the late Grace Wangari who was killed in cold blood five years ago.

Monicah Muthoni, who is married to Pastor Muiru's brother and Ezekiel Saitambua are the main suspects in the case.

The pastor's wife said there was bad blood between Muthoni and her mother-in-law and that they were constantly having arguments at home and there were numerous sittings held to reconcile the two.

While giving her account, Lucy said she suspects her sister-in-law's hand in the killing of their mother-in-law claiming that after getting a report of her disappearance, she called her (Muthoni) asking the whereabouts of the deceased and she was told she had left home the day before but had not come back.

"I got a call from my husband and he told me their mother is missing and the first person I called was Muthoni because they used to live in the same compound," she said.

"Muthoni then told me that our mother-in-law had left the previous day carrying a small bag and that she said she would be back but never showed up," she remarked.

Lucy however said she was not satisfied with the answer.

She said three days before the gruesome murder, she had visited her mother-in-law at her home in Karega and she took the various items she had bought for her and gave her Ksh2000 cash.

"We spent about one and half hours at home before proceeding to Sabasaba shopping centre for a crusade" she added

The witness further said on this day, their mother had been left home alone which is not the norm and she became concerned.

"We had two guards at home but none was around that time and upon inquiry, I was told one was on leave and the other was out on his errands," she said.

She also said Muthoni was not at home but she spotted her at the crusade in Sabasaba.

Elizabeth Nyambura another witness said the first accused Ezekiel Saitambua had donated to her several household items among them Tv set, two mattresses and recorders which she later came to learn belonged to the deceased.

"I had known Ezekiel for about three months and he brought me the items to help me settle down after I walked out of my matrimonial home," she said.

Nyambura said she got a call from Kigumo police station to take the donated items.

Earlier, the Chief Inspector of Police Stephen Mwangi then attached to Kigumo police station said a report of a missing person was filled on March 22, 2017 by Matthew Wainaina, son of the deceased.

Two more witnesses including the government pathologist Johansen Oduor and Leah Wanjiru have been slated to testify on February 22, 2022
