LSK boss Havi wants Kenyans to arrest DCI boss George Kinoti

Law Society of Kenya (LSK) boss Nelson Havi has asked Kenyans of goodwill to arrest Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) boss George Kinoti and hand him over to Kamiti Maximum Prison in Kiambu County.

In a post on his official Twitter account, Havi called upon Kenyans to go out and ensure that they nab Kinoti after a court issued a warrant of arrest against him.

Kinoti was in November sentenced to serve a four-month jail term in Kamiti prison over contempt of court by High Court judge Justice Antony Mrima.

However, the country’s most famous sleuth has never presented himself in the prison as it was ordered.

According to Havi, Kinoti is the former DCI boss and as things were, he is no longer in office.

“Kenyans must take it upon themselves to arrest 'former DCI Director' George Kinoti and hand him over to Kamiti Maximum Prison. It has to be done,” he wrote.

The LSK President further said that no one is above the law and that Kinoti should lead by example when it comes to respecting the rule of law.

He said that the country’s rule of law should not in any way be issued with bias.

“Kenya must be governed by the Rule of Law. The law cannot be for the obedience of the meek and disobedience by the mighty,” he added.

In a ruling issued two weeks ago, Justice Anthony Mrima said that Kinoti was guilty of failing to hand back Presidential aspirant Jimmy Wanjigi firearms that were seized from him.

The magistrate then ordered that Kinoti be jailed at Kamiti Maximum Prison.

Justice Mrima further ordered Inspector General of Police Hillary Mutyambai to personally arrest Kinoti should the DCI boss fail to present himself in Kamiti prison.

This is yet to take place to date attracting a national debate.

In his defence, Kinoti said that the kind of firearms that was seized from Wanjigi who is eyeing the presidential seat on an Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) ticket should not be in the hands of civilians.
