The government will spend at least Sh300 million towards devolving immigration services, Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i has said.

He said passport issuance centres have been set up in Nyeri, Eldoret, Nakuru, Embu and Kisii counties to enhance service delivery.

“Another centre is set to be opened in Narok in coming months,” said the CS.

Speaking in Kisii town on Saturday during the official opening of the passport centre, Matiang’i reiterated the government’s commitment to issuance of digital passports.

The new centres are collectively projected to serve at least 1,500 new applicants daily to help ease the pressure and congestion at the Immigration  Department headquarters in Nairobi.

Meanwhile, the CS directed the regional commander and Kisii county commissioner to deal with alleged corruption and brokers at the county births and deaths registration centre.

He appealed to residents to report any bribery incident to the authorities for action.
