A youthful police officer is fighting for his life at the Sagam Community Hospital in Luanda, Siaya County after he was on Friday, December 25 attacked by his girlfriend, who is a Form Three student.

Sheryl Awino, 19, cut Dennis Mugo in the head with a broken glass, resulting in Mugo bleeding profusely. The incident happened at Mugo’s house in Ugunja, Siaya County.

The cause of fight between the suspect, a student at St. Peter’s Rambula Mixed Secondary School, and the cop, who is attached to Ugunja Police Station, remains unclear.

Police say Awino and Mugo had, Friday evening, been embroiled in a long and bitter physical fight, which resulted in the two breaking a glass table.

“[During the melee], the suspect picked a broken piece of glass and attacked Mugo by cutting him in the head and his left arm,” says a police report filed at Ugunja Police Station.

Following the attack, Mugo is said to have screamed for help, catching the attention of another police officer, Solomon Kipchumba, who rushed to the scene.

Awino allegedly attacked Kipchumba, cutting him in the lower lip using a broken piece of glass.

A bleeding Kipchumba, thereafter, rushed to the Ugunja Police Station and filed a report.

Kipchumba and Mugo were, thereafter, rushed to Sagam Community Hospital. Mugo is still receiving treatment, whereas Kipchumba was treated and discharged.

The suspect has since been arrested.
