A middle-aged man from Kabati area in Murang’a County was on Monday evening, July 15, arrested in possession of fake Ksh892, 000 new generation notes.
Stephen Murigi, who was arraigned in a Murang’a court on Tuesday, July 16, pleaded not guilty to the offence.
Chief Magistrate Margaret Kinyanjui released the suspect on Ksh1 million and a surety of a similar amount.

According to Kandara OCPD, Paul Wambugu, the suspect had been arrested at 1pm Monday for a different wrong-doing and taken to Kabati police post, only for a search conducted in his vehicle -- a Toyota Saloon car of registration plate KAH 137Z --, to yield the puzzling discovery.
The Ksh892, 000 in the new a thousand shillings’ denomination was found hidden in a bag that had been stored in the trunk of the vehicle.
And elsewhere -- but still in Murang’a County --, two suspects were arrested on suspicion of trying to defraud an M-Pesa shop operator using fake Ksh17, 000 notes.
The two, Joyce Muthoni and Raphael Njoroge, denied the charges before a Murang’a court, and were freed on a Ksh15, 000 bond and a surety of a similar amount.
