A flooded quarry.

The bodies of two herdsmen who drowned in a Ruai quarry in Nairobi while searching for missing cows have been retrieved.

Locals said that Raymond Metekai and Raphael Sankau were searching for the missing cattle when one dived into the flooded quarry suspecting the cows were drowning.

His fellow herdsman followed him in a bid to rescue him after he noticed he was stuck and they both drowned.

Efforts to retrieve the bodies only bore fruit after the Nairobi County fire brigade was called in.

Now the family and locals have called for the quarries to be filled, saying many people and cattle have drowned there.

Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko was happened to be passing by as the bodies were being retrieved promised to buy coffins and cater for the transportation of the bodies to Suswa where they will be buried.
