Former rugby players, Alex Olaba and Lawrence Frank Wanyama have been charged afresh after High Court judge Ngenye Macharia ordered for their retrial.

The duo was charged on Tuesday morning, July 7, with two counts of gang rape before Nairobi Principal Magistrate Zainab Abdul.

The players pleaded not guilty to the charges and ordered on a cash bail of Ksh300,000 each.

The retrial was ordered on June 30 by the High Court because one of the witnesses gave unsworn evidence that led to their conviction.

In August 2019, Nairobi Chief Magistrate Martha Mutuku convicted them of rape and sentenced them to 15 years in prison.

They were convicted for gang-raping a musician on February 10, 2018, at a house party in Seefar Apartments in Nyayo High Rise estate.
