Three men were on Friday, December 27, arrested in Meru County on suspicion of engaging in the business of selling stolen motor vehicles.

Among the suspects, is a 20-year-old man identified as Nicholas Opiyo, who police say, is a resident of Kariobangi North in Nairobi County.

Opiyo alongside 28-year-old Kelvin Oduor Demba, a resident of Baba Dogo area in Nairobi, and 36-year-old Patrick Mburugu, a resident of Meru, were busted by Flying Squad officers allegedly on the verge of selling a Toyota Fielder of registration plate KCH 301R believed to be stolen property. The three, who were apprehended in Meru, are being held in custody at a Meru police post.

“The vehicle was recovered,” said the DCI in a tweet posted on their official page.

The three, the DCI say, would be charged with handling stolen property, among others offences once investigations are concluded.

Elsewhere in Nairobi County, the DCI detectives intercepted two vehicles -- both Toyota Hilux models -- that had the same registration plate number – KCE 600P.

“We have impounded the vehicles, pending further investigations,” said the DCI.
