Murang'a Governor Mwangi wa Iria has told off National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi over his planned coronation as Mt Kenya spokesperson.

Speaking in an interview in Murang'a county on Friday, May 21, Wa Iria argued that neither President Uhuru Kenyatta nor Mwai Kibaki were coronated at the historical Mukurwe wa Nyagathanga.

“I am angered at what is happening at Mukurwe wa Nyagathanga shrine. I am getting information from the newspapers on what some people want to come and do at this sacred shrine,” Wa Iria told Kameme TV.

The governor’s claims came barely a day before Muturi’s scheduled coronation. For eight days, the National Assembly Speaker was in seclusion ahead of the planned coronation.

“It’s written nowhere within our history that the first President of the Republic of Kenya Mzee Jomo Kenyatta was coronated at Mukurwe wa Nyagathanga,” the governor argued.

In a heated tirade, Wa Iria swore that he shall not let the Saturday, May 22 coronation go on as planned.

“Yesterday I received a phone call from elders who told me that he says (Muturi) he will come with police. I will not accept our shrine from being taken away from us by force,” the governor said.

Wa Iria pointed out that neither Kibaki nor Uhuru has ever stepped in the historical shrines not even during the campaign period.

“Now few individuals want to bring Speaker Justin Muturi for Coronation in that place as Mt. Kenya spokesperson. I will not accept even if the entire kikuyu nation accepts him because these are people who have an agenda of dividing our region,” Wa Iria argued.

Recalling President Uhuru’s promise on showing the people of Mt Kenya who to follow when the right time comes, Wa Iria told off Muturi adding: “Muturi has given orders in the National Assembly now he thinks he can order Kikuyu god (Ngai wa Kirinyaga). I will protect this shrine even if am alone,” the governor announced.
