Kirinyaga Woman Representative Purity Wangui Ngirici has asked politicians to stop blaming the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) when they are being trailed by Anti-Corruption agencies in Kenya.
In a social media statement that is craftily aimed at Waiguru, Ngirici appeared to be warning the governor against blaming any agencies for her recent political decisions.
This comes just a day after it emerged that Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru who early this week joined Deputy President-led party UDA was being trailed by the Anti-corruption Commission (EACC) over alleged graft.
Interestingly, the clique of politicians who accompanied Waiguru to her Karen residence is also being investigated by EACC.
They include; Chief Finance Officer Mugo Ndathi, Kirinyaga County Assembly Speaker Anthony Gathumbi, Leader of Majority James Murango and chairman of the Budget Committee at the county assembly David Mathenge.
All of them announced that they had officially joined UDA and that they will support DP Ruto.
“When anti-graft agencies strike, don’t blame it on joining UDA. We have built the party from scratch,” Ngirici posted on her official Facebook account.
This was followed by a statement by Waiguru who maintained that she was being trailed because of her political stand.
“Surely, It's barely 48 hours after we decamped to UDA & now this…? As a believer in the rule of law this is really unfortunate. Its intention is to dissuade those contemplating the same … & an attempt at engineering succession politics… it won't work. Kenyans are not stupid. And there is God in heaven,” she posted on her official Facebook account.
Waiguru has in the past claimed that she was being trailed because she was working with DP Ruto.
In September, just after being summoned by EACC, the Governor who is serving her first term accused the Anti-graft body of political witch-hunt.
She was questioned over a ksh52 million pending bill in her county which she approved for payment.
Addressing the media after she had been grilled by officials from EACC, Waiguru said that the summoning had nothing to do with the purported investigations on the misappropriation of funds.
“The summon are pure political-witch hunt,” she claimed.
Waiguru and her team are expected to answer to charges of conspiracy to commit an economic crime, abuse of office, false accounting, deception and forgery.
