Kevin Kang'ethe, a suspect accused of killing his girlfriend at an airport in Boston, United States has escaped from police custody, police have confirmed.

Kang'ethe who was being detained at the Muthaiga police station is said to have escaped after a meeting with a man believed to be his lawyer.

According to police, Kang'ethe's alleged lawyer presented himself at the station wanting to see him and the officers at the station released him to meet the alleged lawyer.

Shortly after, the suspect ran off leaving his alleged lawyer at the station. Police are said to have given a chase but were unable to arrest the suspect.

"The prisoner escaped by running away leaving the said lawyer behind. Officers raised an alarm as they chased the prisoner along Thika highway but couldn't re-arrest him," police said.

Nairobi Regional Police Commander Adamson Bungei termed the incident embarrassing and called for the arrest of the four police officers who were at the station at the time of the incident. The officers were arrested alongside Kang'ethe's alleged lawyer.
