Nairobi Metropolitan Services Director General Mohamed Badi has assured residents of Mukuru Kwa Njega slums, whose homes were demolished by the government, that President Uhuru Kenyatta has commited to ensure their houses are rebuilt.
The families had their houses demolished as the government claims that the houses were put up on a road reserve.
Badi assured the affected families that President Uhuru will use his personal funds to buy them building materials provided they do not invade road reserves.
“Let us remain calm, anyone who was affected by this demolitions will get a place to live. You will all get building materials, the President will pay for the materials from his own pocket. But ensure you don’t encroach road reserves,” he said.
The government demolished houses in Mukuru Kwa Njenga slums so as to pave way for the construction of the Nairobi Expressway.
