Uasin Gishu: Residents badly injure 6 police officers for arresting suspect

Six police officers in Kesses, Uasin Gishu County are nursing injuries after they were attacked by members of the public while they had gone to arrest an arson suspect.

Benjamin Makau who was the officer on duty had together with his five colleagues Kasudi Towet, James kirungi, Emmanuel Wanyonyi, Chacha Marwa, and Bernard Kesis gone to arrest Stephen Limo who is an arson suspect when they were attacked by members of the public after his wife shouted.

Limo had been at large.

The public attacked the officers using stones and crude objects leaving them with serious injuries.

“Reported by the in-charge patrol base Cpl Benjamin Makau that while at Hill Tea trading Centre which is about 7km east of the post whereby he had accompanied his fellow officers to arrest the suspect of arson vide CR 839/14 /2022 namely Stephen Limo who had been at large, upon arresting him his wife namely Grace Cherutich started shouting prompting members of the public who came while armed with crude weapons and stones,” read part of the police report.

Makau was injured on the head, left leg, and right hand, while Towet was injured on the right shoulder. Kirungi was injured on the head, the lower teeth, left leg, and right hand.

Wanyonyi was injured on the right hand while Marwa was injured on the right shoulder and Kesis was injured on the back.

The officers were admitted to Burnt Forest Sub-County Hospital and were released in a fair condition.
Officers are now on the hunt for the suspect who was set free by the members of the public during the incident.
