Two suspects have been arrested for allegedly transporting illicit disguised as a corpse from the Western Kenya region to Nairobi in a hearse.

After tracking for more than 200kms, police officers from Kabete seized the hearse in Uthiru.

Confirming the incident, Dagoretti OCPD Francis Kinyua said after a search in the underbelly of the bus where dead bodies are normally put during the transportation, they found 130 litres of illicit moonshine liquor.

“After a thorough search in the underbelly, we found 130 litres of illicit moonshine brew they were illegally transporting. So far we have arrested two people,” Kinyua said.

Kinyua said the illicit brew had been packaged in polythene bags which were sandwiched between dried maize to prevent any smell.

The police boss further called on the law enforcement officers to be keen and do impromptu searches in the hearses and ambulances because many are doing the business of transporting illegal substances and drugs.

“I urge law enforcement officers to conduct impromptu searches in these vehicles in order to get more suspects and end the vice,” Kinyua added.

The two suspects are in police custody waiting to be taken to court as police launch further investigations.
