The turbulent reign of Egerton University Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Rose Mwonya, has ended after the University council appointed an acting VC.
In a notice to the staff and students, the University Council appointed Prof. Isaac Kibwage in an acting capacity effective today, November 20, until a substantive holder is recruited.
Dr. Mwonya who was set to retire in January after attaining the mandatory age retirement has been sent on terminal leave.

The notice signed by the Registrar of Human Resource and Administration, Dr. Thomas Serem, puts to rest the tug of war that has been bedeviling the oldest institution in the region pitying the lecturers and the VC over alleged management high-handedness.
Until his appointment, Prof Kibwage was the Deputy Vice-Chancellor Administration, Planning & Development at the university.
Two weeks ago, over 500 Egerton lecturers commenced their strike over a raft of issues, among them demand for a roadmap on recruitment of the new vice-chancellor and the revival of the agricultural university that has been riddled with scandals and mismanagement in recent years.
UASU Secretary-General Constantine Wesonga and chairman, Prof Muga K'Olale, said that the institution had been run down by the leadership of the institution to near knees.
