Transport in Homa Bay was on Friday, July 7, 2023, paralyzed after a section of youths barricaded Homa Bay Rongo, Homa Bay-Kendu Bay roads as the Azimio la Umoja brigade called for a nationwide demonstration.

The call also affected businesses within the main CBD as most of the major outlets remain closed during the better part of the day.

The protestors lit a bonfire on the main road blocking any private and Public Service Vehicles(PSVs) from operating.

While terming it the “Third Liberation”, the Azimio brigade led by former Prime Minister Raila Odinga had called for the Saba Saba rally to inspire a rebellion against President William Ruto's administration over the high cost of living.

However, the political class in Homa Bay have been missing in action as well as the security officers who have kept off from the youths who have gathered on the main road.

Violence has also been experienced in other parts of the country including Nairobi.

In the chilly morning hours, unknown persons were captured pelting stones at vehicles on Thika Road.

Police were deployed to calm the situation and restore normalcy on the busy highway.
