A Thika High School Bus was on Saturday involved in a minor accident at the Mang'u High School footbridge in Kiambu county.

While confirming the incident, police said the accident involved the bus which was ferrying 47 students to Nairobi for games and a PSV matatu ferrying passengers, the matatu lost control and hit the school bus damaging its rear.

Fortunately, none of the students board was injured, however, a few people on the matatu sustained injuries and were rushed to a nearby health facility for treatment.

Among those injured was the driver of the matatu and a passenger, the two were trapped at the seats but were rescued by the fire brigade.

The wreckage of the damaged matatu and the school bus was towed to the police station pending further investigations.

The latest comes two weeks after a teacher and a student died in a road accident involving a Kapsabet Boys' High School bus along the Kabarnet-Marigat highway in Baringo county.

The ill-fated bus with 63 people on board; 61 learners, a teacher, and the driver was headed to Lake Bogoria, Baringo South on a geographical trip.

At the time of the incident, the bus lost control on a winding road at Patkawanin, hit a guard rail and rolled several times before landing in a ditch.

The injured students were rushed to a nearby health facility for treatment whereas the deceased were moved to a morgue.

“They were heading on a geographical trip, and unfortunately, they had an accident. We have students who have slight injuries but they have been taken to the hospital for treatment,” Police Commissioner Stephen Kutwa said.
