A family in West Ugenya is mourning the death of their daughter who drowned while swimming in River Nzoia.

The Sunday afternoon incident left residents of Bonde A village in Sifuyo East sub-location, Siaya County in sorrow as the villagers trooped along the banks of the river where the 16-year-old student downed.

According to the Sifuyo East sub-location assistant chief, Edward Okoth, the deceased, Nancy Akinyi was a Form One student at Siginga Secondary School and was barely a week old at the school.

He said that Akinyi had washed clothes in the adjacent Wath Kobare river bank and later carried the clothes to Wath Kotunge to join her friends.

As her friends had not finished, she decided to enjoy a swim while waiting for them, said the administrator.
