Former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko on Tuesday, December 22 made explosive remarks at the burial service of late Machakos Senator Boniface Kabaka.

The service took place at the senator’s ancestral home in Masinga, Machakos County.

The ex-county chief alleged that there was more to Kabaka’s death than claims that he died after falling ill suddenly.

Kabaka was reported to have been taken ill at a Kilimani apartment on the night of December 3. The senator was with a friend, a 45-year-old female teacher from Makueni County.

After one week of being admitted to the Nairobi Hospital Intensive Care Unit (ICU), Kabaka succumbed to his ailment on December 11.

And, now former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko claims Kabaka could have been a victim of elimination by his political enemies, who are dining at the High table.

“Many senators here are timid. They know the truth, yet they can’t speak it,” said Mike Sonko while addressing mourners in Masinga Tuesday.

“Members of the media spread a lot of propaganda about the deceased senator in their reportage. Let us respect Senator Kabaka, his wives and children,” added Sonko.

“I knew Senator Kabaka quite well; we were very close. We lost three senators – Otieno Kajwang, Mutula Kilonzo Senior and now Kabaka. So much about the circumstances surrounding their deaths were reported. We know what happened to them, we know what the State machinery did,” alleged the ex-county chief.

“Before his death, Kabaka had issues with key figures of the Deep State and the system because he was strongly defending Machakos people against land cartels.

“When a senator, who was strongly fighting for the people against oppression dies, the narrative you would hear being peddled around is that he died of Viagra overdose. [That is not the truth], we know what you did. The Viagra narrative pinned on Kabaka is hogwash.

“We want Kabaka’s death investigated to the root, and his cause of death unraveled.”

Commenting on his December 17 impeachment by the Senate, Sonko said: “I am not moved, even a bit, by the impeachment process they instituted against me.”

The former governor also alleged that the Uhuru-Raila team is taking Wiper Party Leader Kalonzo Musyoka for a ride, and that they would dump him in the run-up to 2022 general election.

“Kalonzo, they are conning you,” said Sonko.

“Recently, during the Msambweni by-election, Jubilee Party Vice Chairperson David Murathe called and informed me that they had hatched a plan to ensure Wiper Party candidate does not run for the MP seat. I have evidence, which I will share with you.

“[For now], Kalonzo sit down with William Samoei Ruto and see how you will work together.”
