Two minors are amongst six people feared dead following a grisly road accident involving a lorry that was ferrying crates of beer in Isiolo county.

The two minors are said to be pupils at a local primary school who were on their way home when the accident took place.

Witnesses say that the lorry lost control in downtown Isiolo on the afternoon of Monday, February 28 before ramming into buildings and pedestrians at a junction within Isiolo town known as Subuiba junction.

“The lorry was being driven at a high speed and there was a tire burst before it lost control leading to the accident,” Caroline Nkirothe a local told the media.

The Monday afternoon accident is the second to be reported in Isiolo County in two weeks.

In the initial accident, a lorry hit a motorbike leaving the rider and a pillion passenger dead.

This comes at a time when there is a countrywide crackdown on highways and major roads across the country in a bid to prevent road accidents.

This is after NTSA released worrying numbers of accidents taking place in the country.

In the most recent data, the number of accidents jumped from 3,707 in 2020 to 4,347 in 2021.

Nairobi County led in the number of accidents in the last year with a total of 495 cases being reported.
