A renown club in the heart of Kitale has been left with an explanation to make after a middle aged man died while in a drinking spree.

According to the accounts of eyewitnesses, Ahmed Karim Abdi started drinking at the club for sometime before he collapsed and died on his seat.

The deceased, who is asthmatic, is said to have been drinking on an empty stomach.

"We were having a drink at the club when all of a sudden we heard noises in one side of the club. People started storming out of the club and when we investigated we found the deceased lying on the seat writhing in pain before he went silent," one reveller who sought anonymity said.

Locals who spoke to K24 Digital say that the club is notorious of flouting Covid-19 rules since it is associated with a prominent politician in the Western region.

"People fill this club, especially college students, in total defiance of the Covid-19 outlines that are observed by other clubs and bars. The management often says that they have bought off the police and that they know the high and mighty in Trans Nzoia county," a resident revealed.

Local now want the management to be forced to adhere to the set rules.

Police commander Jecinter Wesonga confirmed the incident saying they released the body to the family to be interred as per the Muslim burial rites.

She further added they were investigating the other claims raised by the locals.
