Ruto appoints Ababu Namwamba to represent young people at UN

Youth Affairs, Arts and Sports Cabinet Secretary Ababu Namwamba will on Thursday, September 21, 2023, leave for the Global Leadership Council in New York following his appointment.

Ababu was appointed by President William Ruto to represent the youths at the United Nations Global Leadership Council of Generation Unlimited(GenU).

In a statement, the GenU platform - scheduled to take place during the 78th UN General Assembly is a UN project that aims to advance the agenda of young people globally.

The CS accepted his appointment and expressed gratitude to the President for the honour and vote of confidence in granting him the opportunity.

"I appreciate this honour and confidence bestowed upon us by President William Ruto," the Sport CS said.

"Our Beta Young People’s Agenda is transformative, and includes Youth Digital & Innovation Skilling for Job Creation, Youth for Climate Adaptation, Youth in Peace and security and #TalantaHela," he added.

The United Nations Global Leadership Council of Generation Unlimited targets to empower the youths through advocacy, programs, and mobilization of resources by partnering with governments, businesses, multilateral organisations and young people to overcome the skills gap.

It also seeks to advance internet connection to all young people and schools.
