Former Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) commissioner Roselyne Akombe has commiserated with the family of Gichugu Returning Officer (RO), Geoffrey Gitobu.

Taking to her official social media pages, Akombe penned her condolence message to the deceased's family as she expressed disappointment over the sudden death of IEBC officials.

"No words describe the pain of yet another loss of a public servant serving his country. Lost for words to condole the family of Gitobu and the IEBC staff. While we await the cause of this sudden death, it is time to stop these senseless incidents," Akombe stated.

Gitobu, who served as RO in the just concluded General Election, is said to have collapsed and died outside the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) offices in Nanyuki, Laikipia County, on Monday, August 22, 2022.

At the time of his sudden death, he had taken a three-day off to visit his family in Nanyuki.

He was rushed to Nanyuki Teaching and Referral Hospital, where he was pronounced dead upon arrival.

A postmortem exercise has been slated for Wednesday, August 24, to determine the cause of Gitobu's death.

Laikipia County Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) boss Onesmus Towett dismissed claims that the IEBC official was murdered.

He urged members of the public not to politicize the matter and wait for the police to conclude their investigation.

"Let the politicians and everyone saying that someone has been murdered stop such talks because they don't have evidence. We have opened an inquiry and will tell the world what happened," he stated.

Gitobu's demise comes a week after Embakasi East Returning officer Daniel Musyoka's body was found dumped in a thicket in Oloitoktok Kajiado.
