A policeman has been arrested after shooting his friend 10 times with an AK-47 rifle on Tuesday night.

Edgar Mokamba, who is a constable attached to Gigiri’s Nyari Police Patrol Base, is said to have shot his friend when he went to visit him while on guard duty.

The shooting occurred shortly after the victim arrived at the patrol base as eyewitnesses said that they heard loud gunshots and rushed to the scene only to find the civilian lying dead at the driver’s seat of his Probox car.

At the time, the duo were chewing miraa [khat] inside the vehicle.

Police said that the victim frequently visited the patrol base.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations in a statement issued on Wednesday morning, December 30, said an investigation has been launched.

“Detectives have launched investigations into the matter to establish the motive of the killing,” the statement read in part.
