A police officer accused of defiling a 16-year-old teen on January 1, 2020, was on Monday arraigned at the Maseno Law courts.

However, Sergeant Stanley Kisang, 32, who is attached to Ratta Police Station in Seme Sub-County, did not take plea after the investigating officer, Franko Kazungu, requested for more time to carry out investigations.

While appearing before Senior Resident Magistrate Christine Oruo, Kazungu urged the court to remand the suspect at Maseno Police Station.

The magistrate granted the investigating officer's request to detain him for two more days and directed the matter to be mentioned on January 8, 2020. He has been in detention since January 2, when he was arrested following public protests.

The police sergeant is alleged to have defiled the Form One student after she was brought to the station for attending a night dance to serve as punishment.

When her parents went back to the station to pick her up,  she told to her mother that the accused took her to his house where he defiled her several times.

When she requested that her daughter be taken for treatment, the officers at the station told her that she had already been taken to the hospital for medication.

She, however, insisted that she be taken to the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital.
