Police in Isebania on Tuesday, February 27, 2024, confiscated bhang worth 4.8 million.

While confirming the incident, Migori county police commander Francis Nguli noted that the bhang weighing 160 kilograms had been hidden in four sacks.

Police intercepted the bhang along the Kenya Tanzania border in the operation led by Isebania police OCS Meshack Mulwa.

The illegal goods destined for the country were being ferried using a motorcycle rider who escaped when he encountered the officers.

Police have since launched a manhunt for the suspect who is still at large.

“The sacks were abandoned by a motorcycle rider who then escaped, he is on the run and we are looking for him,” Nguli added.

The latest comes ahead of the heightened efforts against drug abuse in the country.

Led by Deputy President Rigathi Gachagu a section of leaders have come on the front to heighten the war against drugs and alcohol, which still pose a threat across different parts of the country.

Recently, the DP announced that the government was planning to roll out a set of stringent measures to help curb the menace, he added that he was working hand in hand with senior government officials and security officers to actualise the goal.
