Police in Msambweni Sub-County, Kwale County are looking for a gang that killed a middle-aged man that they accused of having coronavirus.

George Kotini Hezron was heading home after spending Tuesday evening drinking at a Diani joint when he met his attackers at 9pm.

“On reaching Kibundani area, [which is] about 3 kilometers West of Diani Police Station, Kotini met a group of youths, and an argument ensued as the youths took advantage of his drunkenness and started accusing him of suffering from coronavirus. As a result, they seriously assaulted him, hence sustaining injuries,” says a police report filed at Diani Police Station by Juma Gatimu, a resident of Kibundani.

K24 Digital understands that the aggressors used stones and boulders to hit their victim.

Police arrived at the scene after the gang had fled.

The law enforcement officers took the victim to Msambweni Referral Hospital, where he died while receiving treatment.

Police say investigations into the matter are ongoing.
