Police kill 3 suspected robbers in Githurai

Three suspected robbers were killed while another escaped in a shootout incident between them and the police on Tuesday, August 2, 2022, at Mumbi stage in Githurai.

Police officers, who were on patrol duty in the area, spotted a motorcycle with three pillion passengers and challenged them to stop.

They defied the order and fired several shots at the officers who were forced to respond, killing three of them on the spot.

One managed to escape the shootout.

“Officers on patrol duty came across a motorcycle with three passengers and challenged them to stop. They defied the order and instead took off. A chase ensued and the robbers started firing at the police. They retaliated back and three were fatally shot,” the police report seen by K24 Digital read part.

The officers managed to recover a Walthers pistol with no magazine, assorted car spares, car breaking apparatus, a butcher sword, a torch, sacks, a blowout machine, and a motorcycle.

The bodies were moved to the city mortuary awaiting identification and postmortem examination.

Police shoot robbery suspect

This comes a few weeks after a robbery suspect was fatally shot as two others escaped in the Majengo area of Githurai.

The three were busted while robbing members of the public at the Thick Stage roundabout of Githurai on Monday, July 18, 2022.

The police conducted the operation after getting wind that the gang of three was robbing the members of the public.

“The three robbers were identified and upon sighting the police, they all fled. A chase ensued and when the officers were about to catch up with them, one of them withdrew a pistol and started firing at the police,” the police statement seen by K24 Digital stated.
