Digital Strategist Pauline Njoroge claims that Ksh302,842 was stolen from her bank account during her arrest on July 22.

The Jubilee party deputy organising secretary and vocal critic of the Kenya Kwanza administration claims officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) were the only third party with access to her account before the money went missing

Njoroge's lawyer made the claim during the mention of her case on Monday, August 14, and called for an investigation into the matter.

"The defense informed the court to put on record that on 03/08/2023 at 19:05:03 hrs there was theft of Ksh302,842.00 from VISA bank account of Pauline Njoroge Njoki," she said.

"Consequently the defense also applied that investigation be done by DCI alongside the current investigation and a report be filed in court on the grounds that; before the theft, the DCI officers were the only third parties who had actual possession and access to the said Bank Cards before the theft."

The mention of Njoroge's case is scheduled for Friday, August 18th. During this hearing, the confirmation of her device's release will be discussed, and the response of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) regarding the missing funds will be sought.

Pauline Njoroge's arrest

The digital strategist was apprehended by officers from the anti-narcotics drug unit in Watamu, Kilifi County on July 22, 2023.

She was taken into custody on charges of possessing narcotics, which were reportedly discovered in her hotel room and a vehicle in which she was travelling with three other individuals.

A police report seen by K24 Digital indicated that DCI officers had been monitoring Njoroge's activities before intercepting a Toyota Hiace with the registration number KCV 116 T.

During the interception, four rolls of dry plant material suspected to be narcotic drugs were allegedly found.

The driver of the vehicle, identified as Emanze Jilani, was also arrested in connection with the incident. Subsequent searches were conducted at various residences linked to the detainees.

At Mawe Zuri resort, a house occupied by Jane Mwangi, yielded a clear container containing ten tablets suspected to be narcotic substances.

In another residence occupied by Njoroge, a container with fifty tablets of suspected narcotics was reportedly discovered.
