Pastor Ezekiel Odero has filed a petition seeking orders to have the government restrained from freezing 16 bank accounts under his possession.

In court papers delivered at the High Court, Odero asked the court to issue a conservatory order temporarily restraining the State against his bank accounts.

He also filed an application seeking the State to reopen his church and his TV channel that was shut down by the Communications Authority (CA).

“In the interim and pending the hearing and determination of this application, this honourable court be pleased to issue a conservatory order temporarily restraining the respondents from taking adverse action against Odero or New Life Prayer Center and Church including the freezing of the church accounts in Cooperative Bank and NCBA bank," the court papers read in parts.

Odero had been arrested on April 27, 2023, over reported deaths at his New Life Prayer Centre and Church situated in Kilifi county.

The court had granted orders that he remains in custody until today, Thursday, May 4, 2023.

He had made an application to have the magistrate court blocked from delivering a ruling on whether he should be detained for a further 30 days.
