A Machakos court has ordered nine suspects, all of them relatives, to be detained to give police more time to complete investigations into the nasty land dispute that led to the murder of a kin.

The suspects are accused of killing 55-year-old woman, Juliana Mwikali, attempting to kill her husband Nelson Ngui, and maliciously damaging the man’s house in Makueni County.

The killing of the woman happened at Kathuma Village in Machakos County while the attempted murder of the husband occurred in Makueni County.

Anthony Mutua Mutiso, who is the main suspect in the murder, was ordered detained for 14 days and will appear in court on September 2, 2020.

Police said that they wanted more time to conduct an identification parade for the ninth suspect, who is accused of orchestrating the events that led to the killing.

The suspects allegedly wanted to eliminate the couple to disinherit them of land that his father left him. Among the suspects are the man's son and nephew among other relatives.

The main suspect’s co-accused, however, will appear in court on Monday, August 24, 2020.

According to the police files, the nine are set to face trial on the following charges: murdering Juliana Mwikali Ngui at Kathuma village in Machakos County, attempting to murder Jackson Makau Ngui, assaulting Jacinta Makau, attempting to murder Nelson Ngui Mutiso, and malicious damage to property of Mutiso at Kathekani village in Mtito Andei, Kibwezi-Sub County.

The other eight suspects are:

  1. Benson Mwanzia Munyao
  2. Harrison Mwanzia Nganga
  3. Noah Mutiso Muvengei
  4. Shedrack Mutie Muvengei
  5. Benjamin Kituku
  6. Elizabeth Mueni
