Nine pupils from Keteng Primary School in Nandi Hills, Nandi East, have been hospitalized at Nandi Hills County Hospital after falling from a tree within the school compound.

The incident occurred when the pupils were trying to pick fruits from the tree during school hours.

The pupils had climbed the tree to reach the fruits, but unfortunately, they fell from the tree, resulting in injuries.

The school staff immediately responded to the situation and provided initial assistance to the injured pupils before they were taken to Nandi Hills County Hospital for further medical attention.

Nandi Hills Medical Superintendent Dr Richard Chepkwony confirmed that the pupils received prompt medical care upon their arrival at the hospital at around 6:00 pm.

"It is true that we have received nine pupils in our facility who were injured while picking fruits from one of the trees within the school as per a section of parent's report to the facility," Chepkwony said.

According to reports, one of the branches that the pupils had stepped on broke, causing them to fall to the ground. Unfortunately, the incident also resulted in injuries to other pupils who were playing under the tree at that time.

"We have attended most of them who had bruises and soft tissues around their eyes. Another pupil who had complained of a headache after hitting the ground has been examined through X-ray and she is in stable condition," Chepkwony added.

Some of the pupils have been treated and released while one who was seriously injured was still being attended to by the time K24 Digital went on air.

"We thank God most of the pupils are now in stable conditions apart from one who had a fracture on her hand and is still under management, we will advise on the way forward after her doctors' analysis, " said Chepkwony.
