A man in Murang'a has been handed a 20-year jail term after he raped a 25-year-old mentally handicapped woman.

Samuel Kamau was accused of taking advantage of the woman who was also partially deaf, and partially dumb after her parents had left home to attend a funeral.

He was arrested after he was caught by the victim's brother raping her in a bush.

“The accused raped her in a nearby bush where he was caught by the woman's brother,” the public prosecutor stated.

Elsewhere, a 22-year-old casual worker was charged before a Mombasa court after allegedly performing a bestial act with a goat.

Shadrack Musyoka Mulwa appeared before Mombasa Chief magistrate Martha Mutuku and pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The particulars were that on November 14 this year, Mulwa performed an unnatural act against the order of nature in shelly beach area of Likoni, Mombasa county.

The suspect was allegedly caught In the act by the animal owner (complainant) who had hired him to graze the animals.

He was arrested and escorted to Shelly Beach police station, from where he was charged in court.

Mutuku ordered the accused to be released on a Ksh100,000 surety bond with an alternative cash bail of Ksh50,000.

The matter will be mentioned on November 29, 2022, for pre-trial purposes.

Two rape handicapped woman

In a separate incident in 2021, detectives drawn from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) arrested two sex pests who allegedly gang-raped a mentally handicapped woman in Lamu County.

In a statement, the two Shadrack Murimi Maina, 45 and Hiribae Kokane, 43, allegedly tricked the lady into thinking they were good samaritans.

It was reported that on the fateful night, the two were on a night patrol accompanied by a Nyumba Kumi elder Samuel Ngumi when they ran into the middle-aged woman in an abandoned house in Sina Mbio area.

"The sex perverts, accompanied by a Nyumba Kumi elder Samuel Ngumi, were on foot patrol when they bumped into the middle-aged woman preparing tea in the crime-prone area," part of the statement read.

The elder who feared for the woman's safety asked the two men to watch over her while he left to seek help.

Upon his return, Ngumi was shocked to find Murimi in the act of raping the intellectually disabled woman.

The other man had already fled the scene after taking his turn.

Ngumi later rescued the lady and quickly alerted the police who then arrested the culprits.
