Several people have been trapped in the rambles of a four-storey building that collapsed Friday afternoon.

The building came crumbling down at around 1.40 pm as the construction works were going on.

According to one of the witnesses, she was serving some of the workers their lunch when they heard a deafening sound and shortly after the building was down.

"It was a lucky escape for many of the workers because the large number was out having lunch," the witness said.

About five people were whisked to safety and rushed to the hospital for treatment.

It is said those who were working on the plumbing works are the ones trapped inside.

Dennis Njoka who was working at the neighbouring hotel said he heard a loud bang and later saw a cloud of dust in the air.

"I managed to rescue one person who was at the edge of the building and he was taken to the hospital," he said.

Relatives of those believed to have been trapped inside are camping at the scene calling for speedy retrieval of their loved ones.

Murang'a County Police Commander Donatha Kiplangat said they have formed a multi-agency team to aid in the rescue mission.
