More Kenyans died in road accidents in 2021, govt announces

According to a report released on Tuesday, September 21, 2021, by the Deputy Inspector General of Police Edwin Mbugua, more lives have been lost in 2021 on the roads compared to 2020.

The recently released survey places pedestrians as the highest number of casualties in 2021 at 1,111 which is 184 up compared to 2020.

98 more drivers perished from road accidents in 2021 compared to 2020 where only 213 lost their lives.

520 passengers died in 2021 compared to 331 who lost their lives on the road in the previous year.

Of the passengers who lost their lives in 2021, 891 were on motorcycles while 61 were cyclists.

Total fatalities from road accidents in 2021 stand at 3,212, an increase of 652 compared to 2020.
