Mombasa man in court for a*****ting up 2 police officers

A middle-aged man has been charged with the offense of assaulting two police officers in Kibokoni, Mombasa County.

Salim Nasoro, who appeared before Mombasa Chief Magistrate Martha Mutuku pleaded not guilty to charges of assaulting police constables Robert Kipchirchir and Enock Kipkorir.

The court heard that the duo, who at the time of the assault was in the lawful execution of their duties, had approached Nasoro who they had suspected of having smoked bhang.

However, after questioning him on why he was smoking bhang, he turned violent and began attacking Kipkorir by beating him using a walking stick before he staggered and fell down.

Man released on bond

At the time of the assault, the duo were both armed and were wearing civilian clothes.

The court further heard that he later grabbed Kipchichir and bit him on his left arm inflicting injuries.

“The officers on sensing danger managed to overpower the accused and later handcuffed and escorted him to the central police station," principal prosecution counsel Alex Gituma said.

The magistrate ordered the suspect to be released on a bond of Ksh200,000 with one similar surety and an alternative of cash bail of Ksh100,000.

The matter will be mentioned on November 17 for pretrial purposes.
