The troubled Kitui county government suffered yet another blow after a fierce fire gutted down three offices in the Ministry of Finance department, destroying crucial files.
Among the offices affected are county records, finance and directorate of economic planning situated next to County Commissioner’s office.
Witnesses said the fire started at around 2 am in the records office and spread quickly through the other offices before it was put out by a borrowed firefighter equipment.

“The fire could have been put off in time if the government firefighting equipment was not defective,’’ said Kitui Senator Enoch Wambua.
Confirming the incident, Deputy governor Dr Nzau Wathe urged residents to remain calm.
