A troubled man has been arraigned before Kibera law courts following claims that he walked into a police station’s parking yard and stole axle bars from three buses that had been detained for not adhering to traffic rules.

The accused person however pleaded not guilty to the offence and the court set his case for a trial.

From the charge sheet read out in court, “Joseph Kimani Thuku jointly with others not before court stole an Axle bar worth ksh50, 000 from a motor vehicle belonging to Republic of Kenya at Kilimani Police station on October 25, by opening the buses and accessing the items.”

On the fateful day at about 4:00 pm, Kilimani officers were on usual patrol within the station parking yard. There were three buses belonging to the City Hopper, Metro Trans and Express Connections parked for flouting traffic rules.

Allegedly, a daring man had sneaked into the buses and removed the axle bars. At that moment, police were checking the buses and the accused who was on the third bus saw them coming.

He then bolted out of the bus carrying a sack that seemed to contain something. This made police suspect that the accused might have stolen something and upon checking the bus he was seen coming out from, the axle was missing.

The accused was rushing towards the main gate but he was intercepted by other officers who had been alerted. He was taken back to the scene and his carrier bag checked. The missing items from the buses were recovered.

The accused however could not account for the items in his possession prompting officers to book him before presenting him in court before Kibera Resident Magistrate Wiliam Tulei.

He denied the accusations and was released on Ksh100,000 or an alternative bond of Ksh200,000. The case was set to be mentioned on November 10.
