A man was arraigned in court on Wednesday, January 18, 2023, after he allegedly slapped a minor using a panga.

The accused, Jackson Ochieng who appeared before the Kibera Law Courts is accused of beating up his victim identified as DO after he picked him up from his mother's workplace.

The court heard that Ochieng beat the minor and abandoned him after accusing him of stealing his motorcycle lights. He was rescued by a well-wisher who took him home.

"He took the minor from his mother’s workplace and later drove him towards the By-pass before beating him up and abandoning him there," the court heard.

The accused pleaded guilty to the charges and begged the court to show him mercy. In his defence, he told the court that he committed the offence out of anger.

He was asked to pay a fine of Ksh20,000 or serve a six months sentence.

Two women charged

Elsewhere, two women were charged in court after they were accused of damaging 32 pairs of shoes worth Ksh53,000.

Monica Kimani and Julia Wairimu appeared before Kibera senior resident magistrate William Tulel to give an account of the charges presented.

According to a charge sheet presented before the court, the aforementioned women are said to have damaged the shoes of Agnes Njeri Wairimu at Kawangware market area in Dagoretti sub-county, Nairobi, on December 31.

The duo denied the charges and requested a cash bail of Ksh5,000 each since they were unable to pay higher amounts.

In her defence, the first accused pleaded with the court to show her mercy since she was taking care of a child.

The two were granted Ksh5,000 cash bail as requested. The magistrate ruled that the case will be brought for pre-trial on January 30, 2023.
