A 28-year-old man suspected to have hacked his two sons to death on Sunday, August 6, 2023, in Kahuro Murang’a County, has been arrested.

Evans Kang’ethe, who went into hiding after committing the act, was spotted at Gakoigo in Maragua as he was heading to Maragua town.

At the time of his arrest, witnesses said, the suspect appeared to be mentally disturbed.

He was frog matched to Gakoigo Police Station and the news of his arrest spread fast like a bush fire with hundreds of residents flocking the scene baying for his blood.

“The police should hand over the man to us. We will deal with him rather than taking him to court for trial," one of the residents said.

Police officers had a tough time controlling the angry crowd determined to discipline the man they accused of killing innocent children.

Kang’ethe was escorted to a police vehicle under tight security and transferred to Kahuro Police Station, where the case was reported.

Titus Nzaka, Kahuro Criminal Investigating Officer, said the suspect will be arraigned in court Wednesday morning to face murder charges.

Kang’ethe is believed to have hacked his two sons aged seven and three years to death on Sunday for unknown reasons.

The children had been under his care for a couple of weeks after their mother fled their home following a domestic dispute. The two are said to have had a turbulent relationship leading to their separation.

The suspect's mother, Ann Wanjiru, said the young man had developed a weird trend of hurling insults and threatening to attack them, hence instilling fear in them.

In one of the incidents, Wanjiru revealed, Kang’ethe had attacked his father threatening to kill him after a disagreement over a piece of land.

Wanjiru said the son should face the law for his heinous act which has left the entire village in shock.

“Am still in shock from the death of my grandchildren and I don't know why their father killed them in such a cruel manner,” she added.
