Detectives in Lunga Lunga, Kwale County have launched a manhunt for a 29-year-old woman who is believed to have assaulted her 7-year-old minor to death.

The suspect, Mary Kioko, managed to escape moments after police raided their home in Mrima, where she was preparing to bury the deceased.

According to reports under OB number 15/02/24, the murder incident was reported by the village elder at Lunga Lunga police station. A resident of the area overheard the suspect assaulting her daughter, namely Dorcas Mbithe Jotham.

"Around 9 p.m. on February 14, the suspect was heard assaulting her daughter using a chapati roller. Neighbours intervened, and the assault stopped," reads part of the police report.

Inquiry

According to police, the suspect went into hiding the following morning from her rented house after allegedly murdering her daughter during the assault incident.

"Upon inquiry, neighbours established that the suspect was in her rural home in Mrima village, 30 kilometres away, with the dead body of the minor, which she had ferried for burial," police said.

Detectives established that she was in the process of burying the minor, alongside a second suspect named Eunice Ndunge, who is assisting police with investigations.

"It emerged that the suspect was in her rural home preparing the burial of the dead child. The suspect went into hiding after police raided their home and recovered the body of the child, which was wrapped in pieces of clothing with little blood stains on the mouth," read the police report.
