Kirinyaga Governor Ann Waiguru was on Thursday, September 9 grilled at the Ethics and Anti-corruption Commission Headquarters over pending bills worth Sh52.8.
K24 Digital has established that Waiguru was summoned in order to shed light on the suspect pending bills.
According to a statement by EACC, the Governor was recording a statement over the matter.
“Kirinyaga County Governor Anne Waiguru is currently recording a statement with EACC detectives at Integrity Centre regarding ongoing investigations into suspect pending bills worth 52.8 Million,” EACC said in a statement.
Five days ago, officials attached to the Anti-graft body raided her office. However, the governor who is serving her first term in office termed the raid as a political witchhunt allegedly due to her statement that the Mount Kenya region should have to go back to the drawing board after Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) fell.
Waiguru said that as soon as she made the statement she was summoned by EACC.
She had claimed that Mt Kenya region did not support the initiative from the beginning.
“Last time I said on BBI let me keep quiet a bit. Immediately, EACC raided my office. Recently I said I am introspecting on the political way forward, and again I get EACC summons complete with subtle threatening inflexibilities,” she said.
According to the governor, the alleged payment of over ksh52 million which was allocated by the County Assembly was a pending bill that was acquired in 2010 for the subdivision, allocation and cadastral mapping of over 7000 acres of South Ngariama Settlement Scheme.
